ObamaCare Repeal: Harry Reid Confronted in Gourmet Market

by G.M. Heller
Published: Tuesday, February 1, 2011, 05:00 P.M. EST.

McLean, VA -- U.S. Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) may never go grocery shopping for his wife again.
While shopping this past Saturday afternoon amongst the food aisles at his local gourmet grocer in McLean, Virginia, Sen. Reid came across a fellow shopper who recognized him and asked a question that the senior senator from Nevada plainly did not want to answer.
The private citizen acknowledged upfront to the U.S. Senate's most powerful Democrat that he was a Republican and wanted to know from Mr. Reid himself why the Majority Leader was refusing to allow the just-passed House bill to repeal ObamaCare to come to the floor of the U.S. Senate for a vote.
Mr. Reid, walking beside the store's imported bottled condiments, responded to his questioner that he was focused on his shopping right now and did not wish to discuss the matter.
Mr. Reid's Republican antagonist was not to be put off and persisted in his questioning.
Leader Reid, who by now was perusing the store's extensive cheese selection, refused to say anything further.
Unfazed by the stony silence emanating from the Majority Leader -- and apparently not at all bothered by the unamused look on the face of the plainclothes Capitol Police officer shadowing the Majority Leader -- the persistent questioner was not yet ready to withdraw.
In a store crowded this busy Saturday afternoon with shoppers from tony McLean and surrounding Fairfax County, where the federal government-fueled economy makes per capita income and spending here amongst the highest in the nation, people know this gourmet grocery for its line of Prime, Natural, and Kobe-style beef, excellent wine list, fine cheeses and other high-end delicacies.
Amongst all this recession chic, Mr. Reid's Republican interrogator decided now was the time to go public.
In a voice that could be heard on the other side of this medium-sized food emporium, the shopper with ObamaCare Repeal on his mind -- no shrinking violet he -- loudly declared to his fellow gourmands (many in lines waiting to check-out) that indeed the graying personage standing right there amongst them was none other than "U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid," and, pointing directly at Mr. Reid, said, "This man is personally holding-up the ObamaCare Repeal bill by refusing to allow it to be brought to the floor of the U.S. Senate for a vote," and which law if left on the books "can eventually bankrupt the United States of America."
From the check-out area came applause, apparently at the spectacle.
The stony -- now red -- faced Sen. Reid, appearing both annoyed and mortified at being the focus of this unexpected public scolding in the midst of what was to be a quiet moment spent Saturday shopping, tried not to be noticed -- hard to do when one is waiting in a check-out line with someone just a few feet away loudly gesticulating and pointing.
Exiting the establishment as soon as practical, Sen. Reid, with more of his security detail now in evidence, hopped aboard one of two waiting black SUV's.
The mini-convoy pulled away from the curb and out of the parking lot, out of reach, for now, of interaction with pesky opinionated partisans. ###

Unconstitutional Obamacare, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our right:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama and sweep out the Congress, except Ron Paul.

-- Typical liberal. The only time they choose to "debate" is when no one is there to challenge them. What a lamebrain coward, Reid is. If he truly believed in the monstrosity known as Obamacare, and was well versed on of all its damning rules and regulations, he should have argued them and stood his ground like a real man. Instead, he turned and ran, like a typical wuss liberal. That man who confronted him is a hero.

Love this comment by the Florida Judge who delivered his ruling on Obamacare.

In his opinion, Judge Roger Vinson referenced the Boston Tea Party:

"It is difficult to imagine that a nation which began, at least in part, as the result of opposition to a British mandate giving the East India Company a monopoly and imposing a nominal tax on all tea sold in America would have set out to create a government with the power to force people to buy tea in the first place."

Mr. Reid should watch carefully what is happening in Egypt. When people have had enough of their tyrannical and oppressive government, they get loud and angry. Without firing a shot, the Egyptian protesters have forced Mubarak into stepping down. Mr. Reid, much to his surprise, may find himself (and his fellow henchmen) in the same predicament, sooner rather than later. Sleep poorly, Harry!

Actually, you are being an ass of a different sort. I believe we're all aloud opinions of our own. This is still a free country... for now.

But, I believe the talking points were:

1. Unemployment will stay below 8%

2. It will create 1M...no, 2M...no, 3M, jobs. Yah, that's it.

3. We'll have a depression if we don't spend a zillion dollars we don't have unless we steal it from your pockets or borrow it from our new buddy Commie Ch1na.

4. You'll get to keep your doctor

5. You won't lose coverage

6. Doctor's just wanna chop off your leg to make money

7. We'll have a depression if we don't spend a zillion dollars we don't have...oh wait...

I believe the D (for Donkeys) made those points pretty popular. But then, libs wouldn't know Truth if it hit them in the a$$.

In Massachusetts we have to have insurance or we get fined at tax time. It is ok with me because everyone is insured and when there are Health Issues everyone who lives in Mass will be treated. I believe it is a great idea to insure everybody - I just would have been happier if there was a public option in the health plan, but we can make it better. It is great for all Republicans and Democrats in Mass to have health care and the majority support it. Mitt Romney was the Governor of Mass that got this great health plan passed. Thank you Mitt - we love you.

Do your research there were large motor shells found attached to canisters of nerve gas, and I guess they used baby powder on the Kurds. You see an unjust war I saw a country who once their leader was deposed millions of common citizens elated at the thought that the torture of a regime was gone. You anti war whiners. do your research on the Iraq death chambers, and do not compare it to our interrogation of terrorist. we never hung people from the , used electrodes on their genitals, beat, cut off fingers and then killed them if the answers were not believed. Repeal the 17th Amendment and put the election of US Senators back into the hands of state legislatures. US Senators were never supposed to represent "you and me", they were supposed to represent the interests of the states against the federal government.

In his argument against the direct election of senators in 1911, New York Senator Elihu Root argued that passage of the Seventeenth Amendment would destroy state sovereignty and foresaw that the “time will come when the Government of the United States will be driven to the exercise of more arbitrary and unconsidered power, will be driven to greater concentration, will be driven to extend its functions into the internal affairs of the States.” Congressional Record, 61st Cong., 3rd Sess., 2243.

We have to realize there's only a certain amount of money to go around and some people don't want to spend it on healthcare. To have our gov't force us to buy healthcare is completely unconstitutional. To uphold this law will completely destroy our country. It means that anything can be passed and we have to live with it. And isn't it amazing as Obama speaks about the need for government to be responsive to the rioters, Prince Harry doesn't want a vote.

I love when people complain about the intelligence of conservatives, but seem to omit that President Obama spoke of not yet having visited all 57 states, and can't seem to remember that the inalienable rights come from God, which has been omitted on many occasions.

And then there is Sen. Schumer with the three branches of government, the president the house and the senate. That is real intelligence.

And as for the tea bag party, amazing how you don't see them rioting, assaulting police, destroying property, or even being very angry when they peacefully assemble to protest the direction that this country is going.

As to republicans for companies and rich people. Anyone seen any poor people consulting with President Obama? Anyone seen people surrounding Obama that profess to loving this country, rather than thinking Chairman Mao is to be admired, or that the Berwick, with health care, has said that Obamacare would necessarily have to redistribute wealth.

And when lawyers are ready to LegalCare, similar to health care I might get a little excited, but lawyers again don't want for themselves what they want to force on others. Last I looked, lawyers are one of the biggest donors to democrats, and I guess it pays to do so.

It pays to be a senator and vote yourself handsome salary increases, while at the same time denying cost-of-living increases two years in a row for Social Security pensioners, and cutting 50 billion dollars out of medical assistance for seniors, not to mention standing by and doing absolutely nothing while the economy flounders and people lose their jobs and their homes by the hundreds of thousands. Bundling together "Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits, Health Care" is typical of liberal chuckleheaded thinking, I'm afraid.
SS is a mandatory ponzi scheme.
Medicare is a mandatory ponzi scheme.
Veterans benefits are part of the benefits specified in the CONTRACT that our ALL-VOLUNTEER armed forces have with the Defense Dept. Nobody is required to participate, because nobody is required to enlist.
Health Care is what I get from my DOCTOR. Bureaucracy, rationing, politically-motivated decisions about my care, increased prices, decreased availability, etc., are what I will get from GOVERNMENT.
How can even a liberal come up with such a dissimilar list??
And, by the way, with the exception of Vets' benefits, my answer is YES, please, eliminate all of those "benefits" and let me (or at least my kids) stop paying for them!!!

Wow! God bless this fellow! Unfortunately for him, as Patriotfather noted, he will probably be audited by the IRS or be targeted as a terrorist or, could find himself the victim of a tragic accident. Nonetheless, I think what he did was great. Maybe someone can post the security camera videos (hopefully with audio)?

Notice that Harry Reid, a known THIEF, spends money by the truckload while his policies, and his party's policies, are destroying America.

If you voted for Democrats in 2008, you will be forgiven. If you voted for them in 2010, you are just stupid. And if you vote for them in 2012, you are an American-hater, and you should lose your job. Don't vote to keep Obama and his Thuggish cabal in power - vote this crowd OUT.

The citizens of Nevada want Obamacare. They must, they re-elected Harry Reid. He will be the majority leader of the senate for at lerast two more years and he will be a Senator for at least 6 more years.

Mr. Reid's position could not have been miscontrued by anyone. His lack of ethics and honor should have been readily apparent as well. The angry guy in the grocery store really has nothing to be mad at Reid about, he should be angry at his fellow citizens for inflicting this execrable man on the rest of us.

Funny how all the left-wing bedwetters-- who preach "bringing guns when 'they' bring knives" and "getting in the faces" of anyone who dares oppose or even question their communist dictatorship-- have a nuclear hissy fit over a Dem simply being questioned by an understandably concerned citizen over the legislative terror attack he forced upon this once-great country.

It gives us all hope that DC is still a government for the people and by the people.

AWESOME! Thank you Patriot!

AWESOME!!!

This is absolutely disgusting. That guy is an arrogant asshat who serves no purpose by harassing Mr. Reid. Ambushing someone when they are trying to do something as simple as buying food is no way to get them to be receptive to your opinions.

It's no secret that the reason he won't allow the health care repeal to go to the senate is because this country is in desperate need of socialized medicine like the majority of the civilized world.

It's about time, they need more of this. He might talk about it if it was the middle of the night, just like the ways they passed all those freedom robbing bills, so they did not have to hear or face no one.

Mubarack is more responsive. After a week of protests by two hundred thousand the dictator is resigning. Our dictators, after a year of protests from millions, passed a law made in secret and now act as though they are immune from criticism or retribution.

Maybe they just aren't afraid of us?

It's obvious why Reid won't allow the repeal ObamaCare bill to come to the Senate floor: like most Democrats and most Americans he supports making health insurance universal, as in all other industrial democracies. Why should he help repeal legislation he supported? Why should he oppose his own president? In case you didn't get the memo, folks, Democrats support strenghthening and expanding the safety net. Deal with it.

And well, done, Senator Reid, for keeping your cool and maintaining your dignity in the face of another classless teapartier. (And yes, it IS classless to accost and hound a member of Congress in a private moment with his wife; sure, he's a public official, but that doesn't mean he's entitled to zero down time, or that's he's never allowed a moment for his private life. You people make me sick).

Oh, and wingnuts, the futures markets are now betting that Obama wins reelection. Deal with that, too.
